Summer Picnic
Oil painting on stretched canvas, 90 x 60 cm, painted in 2025 by artist Mārtiņš Virsis.
The painting picnic has a special place in the artist’s heart as it was inspired by the period he lived in Aizkraukle, Latvia. Right along the side of the Aizkraukle’s lake like side of the Daugava river at the HES, there was a scenic walking path allowing to merge with the nature and enjoy it fully. Nevertheless, one of the entrances to the path was even more beautiful – small elevation of the grounds relief, created a feeling of a valley that stretches in the body of water. The top of this relief was the most beutiful place for picnics during the summer months.
The painting is an attempt to create a snapshot of this beauty and feeling in combination with the dear memories of rest and endless hours spent with the loved ones in this small valley and the path along the river’s bank.
Painting has been featured in the travelling exhibition “Fragments of Imagination” in:
- Ogre Kulturas Centrs (2026 March – April)
- Stāmerienas castle (2026 May – autumn)
