Night Walk

 Oil painting on stretched cotton canvas, 70 x 70 cm, painted in 2025 by artist Mārtiņš Virsis

Painting inspired by the artist’s own late-night walks and bicycle rides. The night that stretches into the early morning dawn, revealing the beauty of the fading night in to the sunrise is artists favorite time. Over many years he spent in the capital city Riga, he took many images with the soft light from the street lights composing night scenery with the soft mesmerising glow of the misteries of the night.

Further two inspiration photos author Mārtiņš Virsis:

Painting is started like other oil paintings with tempera and a sketch. Sketch is created with charcoal due to its intensity. Further a short behind the scenes view of freshly sketched composition.

“Night Walk” featured in travelling exhibition “Fragments of Imagination” (March 2026 – March 2028), exhibited in:

  • Ogre Culture center (March – April 2026);
  • Stāmeriena castle (June – autumn, 2026).
