Autumn Walk
70 x 70 cm. Painted in 2025.
The autumn walk itself is inspired by a mix of Latvia’s autumn forest scenery and movies that particularly focus on nature scenes within medieval settings.
However, the painting process allows us to get behind the scenes with one tiny yet quite important detail – the painting of the edges. (The picture below shows artist M.Virsis painting the edge of the canvas) Edge painting is an ongoing debate within the painter community – should it be an artist’s choice to leave it white, as it will likely be covered with a frame, or should it be painted to visually extend the the painting over the edges?

Painting has been featured in the travelling exhibition “Fragments of Imagination” in:
- Ogre Kulturas Centrs (2026 March – April)
- Stāmerienas castle (2026 May – September)
- Slampes Kulturas pils (2026 September – October)
